16. Mechelen, Petrus-Josephus Hanicq, 1790, in-8°, xii + 237 pp, index, 1 folding table representing Linnaeus' system with 24 ills., contemporary boards, gilt lettering on spine, speckled edges. Boards a bit dustsoiled and discolored but a fine copy. Linnaeus, 1707 - 1778, had started publishing his system in Holland, in 1735, so his theories were known in the Low Countries. The fact Dutch is used for this scientific study is remarkable, and terms like Blad-wyzer for index and Samenstel for system show the author to be language-conscious. Probably for this reason (to publish in Dutch) the book never had any success. This 1790 edition is the second (first 1789). Both edition are very rare. Not in a Belgian Library, only a few copies (some digitalised) in Dutch libraries. Not in Pritzel nor in Johnston (Cleveland collection), nor in the catalogue ''Hortus Belgicus'' where a chapter is devoted to 18th botany in Flanders. (See on the author: Nationaal Biografisch Woordenboek, vol. 16 pp. 683-686)..
