‎" Amsterdam, Chez M. Magérus, 1771, in-folio, 31,5 x 19,5 cm, title + 139 pp (sic 339) + 20 folding handcolored engraved plates (numbered I-XII apples ; I - VIII pears) ; title + (2)(preface) + 205 pp +(1)(table) + 19 folding handcolored engraved plates (complete). Bound in contemporary full red morocco, fine triple gilt fillets on both covers, raised back divided in six panels with gilt floral decorations, double gilt fillets on the edges. Edges of leaves sprinkled, inner dentelle and marbled endpapers. Internally crisp and clean. Very well preserved binding with only two minor expertly executed restorations (one corner and part of the top of the spine). Très bel exemplaire relié en plein maroquin rouge d'époque. Nissen 1077 and 1079. This is the most popular 18th century book on pomology with meticulous descriptions of apples and pears cultivated in the Netherlands and neighbouring Germany, France and England, and rightly famous for the very fine colored illustrations. The second book included in the volume, focuses on soft fruit and has a large section on the grape vines. The French edition which appeared some 12 years after the original Dutch edition (Leeuwarden 1758) is appreciably rarer. A very handsome copy."‎
