His mother, Ellen Terry, was to become the leading lady of English theatre. He received an exceptional education and became first an actor under Sir Henry Irving and then a very influential theater designer and graphic artist; he worked for Eleanora Duse, Isadora Duncan (they even had a child), Stanislavsky and also Yeats and Lady Gregory."‎
