Aimoin began his chronicle with distant origins in Troy with a character called Francio before proceeding up to the year 654, at which point the abbot of Fleury, having lost the king's favour, decided to halt the work. Aimoin wrote the first 4 books, through A.D. 654. After his death, the work was continued anonymously, in two different monastaries, to the birth of Philip II in 1165.
