Cinema. Encyclopedic Dictionary. -/Kino. Entsiklopedicheskiy slovar.- The Dictionary is intended not only to update the two-volume Cinema Dictionary (Vol. 1, 1966, Vol. 2, 1970) published by the Soviet Encyclopedia, but also to define more clearly the processes of development of Soviet and foreign cinema. The urgency of this task lies in the fact that the art of cinema, whose mass audience has expanded thanks to television and new means of audiovisual communication, occupies one of the significant places in the spiritual culture of the Soviet people during the period of systematic and all-round improvement of socialism in the USSR, is a weapon of acute ideological struggle between the forces of progress and reaction in the world.
