Annenkovs writings are devoted to problems of civil law, civil procedure, and local self-government. Contemporary scholars noted the fundamental reference value of his Commentary Experience on the Statute (1880; 1887, 2nd edition) as a desk book of jurist-practice. Equally highly appreciated was the reference value of his System of Russian Civil Law (3rd edition 1899-1910), even though the very presentation of the system of Russian civil law is a reworking of Roman law as presented by J.
