Nicholas II. Diaries. 1904 to 1907. In Russian /Nikolay II. Dnevniki. 1904 1907. This book is an attempt at a new approach to the study of the memoirs of the last Russian emperor. Nicholas II, like many other Romanovs, has kept brief diary entries all his life, documenting only events without revealing emotions or assessments. Such notes are a valuable source, allowing for a thorough examination of the facts from the authors biography and surrounding realities. The period that covers the diaries is of great importance for understanding the sovereigns personality and the history of Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century. They reflect the countrys most difficult years of the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 and the period of revolutionary turmoil of 1905-1907.
