‎London J. McGowan 1838 Première édition dans cette version (édition McGowan). Un beau « Book of Common Prayer » illustré de l'époque victorienne. Reliure intégrale en cuir brun foncé avec des dentelles dorées sur les plats et des motifs dorés sur le dos. Une étiquette en cuir noir portant le titre (presque effacée). La reliure est en bon état, avec seulement quelques légères traces d'usure. À l'intérieur, le livre lui-même est en très bon état, avec un léger noircissement et quelques rares rousseurs. Le texte est présenté dans un format assez grand, adapté aux églises sombres ! Accompagné de sept jolies planches gravées en pleine page représentant les sacrements (baptême, mariage, enterrement, etc.). La première est un frontispice montrant le prêtre exhortant les paroissiens. Deuxième titre gravé avec une vignette représentant la Vierge à l'Enfant Jésus. Au début de l'ouvrage se trouvent des tableaux indiquant les lectures quotidiennes, ce qui permet au lecteur de trouver facilement les passages appropriés. xxiv, 580 [ii] pages. Vient ensuite une nouvelle version des psaumes adaptée à des airs populaires. Celle-ci possède sa propre page de titre et sa propre pagination. 92 pages. 21 cm x 13 cm. Correspond en partie à WorldCat / OCLC : 32474848, qui indique une année d'impression postérieure et ne contient que le Livre de la prière commune principal, sans les psaumes qui suivent.‎

‎First edition thus (McGowan edition). An attractive early Victorian illustrated Book of Common Prayer. Full dark brown leather binding with gilt dentelles to the boards, gilt designs to the spine. A black leather label with title (almost rubbed away). The binding is in good condition, with a little rubbing only. Inside, the book itself is in very good condition, with fractional darkening and the odd foxing spot. The text is in quite a large format suitable for dark churches!. Owner's name and address in Dorset written to the front end paper, otherwise no annotations. Complete with seven attractive full page engraved plates showing the Sacraments (Baptism, marriage, burial etc.). The first is a frontis showing the priest exhorting the parishioners. Second engraved title with vignette of the virgin with the infant Jesus. To the beginning of the work are the tables showing the lessons for each day, making it easy for the reader to find the correct readings. xxiv, 580 [ii]. pages. Then follows a new version of the psalms fitted to popular tunes. This has its own title page and pagination. 92 pages. 21cm x 13cm. Partially matches WorldCat / OCLC: 32474848 which states the printing as a year later, and only has the main Book of Common Prayer, not the Psalms following. .‎
