‎Extrait du Testament de Napoléon 1er ‎

‎France S.P. C1875 Première édition. Une belle copie manuscrite des dernières volontés et du testament de Napoléon. Il s'agit d'une écriture soignée de secrétaire, en deux colonnes, sur un papier bleu fin, écrit des deux côtés. Il ne s'agit pas d'un fac-similé de l'original, mais plutôt d'une transcription. En fait, il ne s'agit pas d'une transcription exacte, mais plutôt d'un résumé de ce qui était écrit dans l'original. Il s'agit néanmoins d'un document fascinant. Une grande partie du document indique où Napoléon laisse ses biens considérables, qui seront ses exécuteurs testamentaires, etc. Le papier fin a été plié et il y a de petits trous au coin des plis, mais il s'agit toujours d'un document cohérent et attrayant. Au verso, le texte final comporte un élément curieux : d'une main différente, il est écrit "Contre les factions qui divisent mon pays, je dois me battre contre elles". En dessous, les deux lignes sont traduites (mais légèrement différemment) d'une main différente : "Contre les factions qui divisent mon pays, et la plus grande émnité....". Sur le bord gauche de la feuille se trouvent également deux petits symboles en relief qui semblent être des filigranes - que nous ne pouvons pas identifier. 35,5 cm x 22,5 cm.‎

‎First edition thus. A nice manuscript copy of the last will and testament of Napoléon. This is in a neat, secretarial hand in two columns on thin blue paper, written on both sides. It is not a facsimile of the original - rather a transcript. In fact, it is not a precise transcript, and in parts summarises what was written in the original. Nevertheless, a fascinating document. Much of the document is outlining where Napoleon is leaving his considerable assets, who his executors will be, etc. The thin paper has been folded, and there are small holes on the corner of the folds, but still a coherent and attractive document. To the verso, is the final text, there is a curious element - in a different hand is written "Against the factions that divide my country, I have to fight against them" below this, in a return to the original hand the two lines are translated (but slightly differently, "Against the factions that divide my country, and the greatest emnity...." There is also, to the left edge of the sheet, two small embossed symbols appearing as watermarks - which we cannot identify. 35.5cm x 22.5cm. ,‎
