‎ Une collection de documents provenant de la succession de Henry Bence Jones. L'intuition du Dr Jones en matière de chimie clinique, qui relie la présence d'une protéine urinaire au diagnostic de myélome, est à l'origine de la découverte de la protéine de Bence-Jones. En 2009, Jude M. Abadie a écrit un article pour Laboratory Medicine, Volume 40, Issue 3, suggérant que Bence Jones méritait le titre de "Père de la chimie clinique". Les archives sont conservées dans une boîte à clapet recouverte de tissu (37 x 24,5 cm). La boîte comprend : (1) Un journal relié en cuir, sans titre, avec une serrure et une clé en laiton (en état de marche). Il contient l'autobiographie de HBJ, dictée à sa fille aînée Millicent Mary Bence Jones au cours des dernières semaines de sa vie. Elle a manifestement pris des notes à ce moment-là et les a soigneusement transcrites dans ce journal. 61 pages non numérotées à l'encre noire. 18,5 x 13 cm. (2) "Das Neue Testament". Londres : Samuel Bagster. Une bible de poche allemande en plein cuir. Très bon état. Inscrite à HBJ par sa sur affectueuse en 1842 (année de son mariage). (3) "Tapuscrit" des mémoires en noir avec des explications et des ajouts en rouge. 30 pages numérotées sur papier à lettres ligné. Avec quelques corrections manuscrites. (probablement par son fils cadet Archibald Bence, né en 1856). 34 x 21 cm. (4) Le manuscrit dactylographié final envoyé à l'imprimeur par Archibald Bence Jones. 2 feuilles manuscrites et 15 pages dactylographiées en rouge et noir sur papier ligné avec quelques corrections à la main. 32,5 x 21 cm. (5) The First Galley Proof. cinq feuilles, imprimées au recto seulement, avec quelques corrections manuscrites (probablement par ABJ). Agrafé. 59 x 17 cm. (6) Première épreuve de galère coupée en sections et avec des notes manuscrites d'ABJ. Agrafée avec une couverture souple brune. 33 x 21 cm. 22 pages. (7) Épreuve finale, éditée par ABJ. 33 pages numérotées imprimées sur dix longues feuilles 78 x 17 cm. (8) Tiré à part du Lancet du 7 octobre 1922, avec une brève anecdote sur HBJ par son ancien employé. (9) Trois lettres en réponse à une demande d'information sur HBJ par des médecins, qui donnent des informations supplémentaires à ajouter à sa biographie. Toutes ces lettres datent de 1922. L'état de toutes les pièces des archives va de très bon à excellent. Le seul dommage est une fissure sur la couverture en papier de l'épreuve en galère.‎

‎A collection of documents from the estate of Henry Bence Jones. Dr. Jones' clinical chemistry insight linking the presence of a urine protein to myeloma diagnoses is what accredits him with the discovery of Bence-Jones protein. In 2009, Jude M. Abadie wrote an article for Laboratory Medicine, Volume 40, Issue 3. suggesting that Bence Jones merited the title "Father of clinical chemistry." The archive is held in a cloth covered clamshell box (37 x 24.5 cm). The box comprises: (1) A leather bound journal, with no titles, with brass lock and key (working). This contains the autobiography of HBJ, as dictated to his eldest daughter Millicent Mary Bence Jones during the last weeks of his life. She clearly wrote notes at the time, and transcribed it neatly in this journal. 61 unnumbered pages in black ink. 18.5 x 13 cm. (2) "Das Neue Testament." London: Samuel Bagster. A German pocket bible in full leather. Very good condition. Inscribed to HBJ from his affectionate sister in 1842 (year of his marriage). (3) 'Typescript' of the memoirs in black with additional explanations and additions in red. 30 numbered pages on lined writing paper. With a few handwritten Corrections. (These probably by his youngest son Archibald Bence, born 1856). 34 x 21 cm. (4) The final typescript manuscript sent to the printed by Archibald Bence Jones. 2 leaves in manuscript and 15 pages typed in red and black on lined paper with some corrections by hand. 32.5 x 21 cm. (5) The First Galley Proof. five leaves, printed to the recto only, with some manuscript corrections (probably by ABJ). Stapled. 59 x 17 cm. (6) First Galley Proof cut into sections and with hand written notes by ABJ. Stapled with a brown soft cover. 33 x 21 cm. 22 pages. (7) Final proof, edited by ABJ. 33 numbered paged printed on ten long sheets 78 x 17 cm. (8) Offprint from the Lancet, Oct. 7th 1922, with a brief anecdote about HBJ by his former clerk. (9) Three letters in reply to a request for information about HBJ from medical men, which gave additional information to add to his biography. All 1922. The condition of all the items in the archive is in very good to excellent condition. The only damage being some splitting to the paper cover of the galley proof. .‎
