‎11. Metz, Lithographie de l'Ecole d'Application, Novembre 1834, in-folio, 33 x 21 cm, (4)nn pp (titre + 188 pp + 5 grandes planches dépliantes. Livre entièrement lithographié, le texte en écriture lithographiée. Reliure moderne en toile blue muette. Très intéressant example d'un '' incunable '' de la lithographie. Twyman dans son livre '' Early Lithographed Books'' ( London, Farrand Press, 1990) décrit ni moins que 45 publications de cette Ecole . M. Tavernier qui en 1819 avait établi à l'Ecole de Metz un atelier lithographique. Il avait appris son métier chez le comte de Lasteyrie. Ces cours, avec le texte en écriture lithographiée, était une nouveauté en matière d'édition de livres et signifiait après Gutenberg une nouvelle convergence entre le manuscrit et l'imprimé. (Voyez Twyman livre 3.20 - pp.325) Highly interesting illustrated textbook on land surveying for military usage, entirely printed in lithography at the French royal military academy in Metz. The (French) text is rendered in lithographed handwriting. The printing shop in Metz was founded in 1819 and one of the first in France. The founder was M. Tavernier, who learned the trade from the count de Lasteyrie, who himself founded his printing shop in Paris in 1816. The lithographed textbook was a real innovation in publishing and meant - nearly 350 years after Gutenberg - a new convergence between the manuscript and the printed book.
