The Environs est le principal ouvrage de Daniel Lysons (1762-1834), qui a dessiné lui-même la plupart des illustrations "The whole forms a work of permenant value; the arrangement is clear and the style interesting; while the copious extracts from the parochial registers, though occasionally inaccurate, are useful to the biographer and genealogist" (Oxford DNB). Archibald Philip Primrose (1847 1929), 5e comte de Rosebery, connu également à partir de 1851 sous le titre de courtoisie de Lord Dalmeny, fut Premier ministre de la reine Victoria de 1894 à 1895.

Dos uniformément insolé et passé.

Some scattered foxing but mostly in first few pages and endpapers, some plates also somewhat foxed. Rare third volume of this journal, which later was renamed: Transactions of the Natural History Society of Northumberland, Durham, and Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Topics are: fossil amphibians, fossil fishes, fossil reptiles and fishes, terraced slopes, Crustacea (Janassa, Entomostraca), meteorology, etc. Most plates depict fossil vertebrates and Crustaceans.
