The collection was particularly strong on Dutch 19th century painting - Jozef Israëls, Jacob Maris , Anton Mauve , Willem Maris , Bernardus Blommers, but contained also 7 Corot paintings and the finished pastel study for the famous Angelus painting by Millet as well..

His reputation rests on his first-hand accounts of such conditions as the malarial fevers of his times, gout, scarlatina, measles, etc.". (Garrison N° 63 latin ed.) ---- Heirs of Hippocrates N° 554 : This work translated in 1742 from latin by John Swan, contains not only Sydenham's Methodus curandi febres but a number of his other works as well. His very popular Processus integri morbis fere omnibus corandis, Schedula monitoria, Treatise of the gout and dropsy, the hysteric passion in women and the hypochondriac disease in men, the apoplexy, the epilepsy or falling sickness in children, and epistles on venereal disease and small pox are also included" ---- "Sydenham included under hysteria all psychological ills short of frank alienation. He noted that hysterical symptoms were often accompanied by depression and that they could coexist with physical disease.
