Illustré de 5 planches dont une carte dépliante et 4 figures gravées, index, demi-basane granitée, dos lisse orné, pièces de titre et tomaison saumon, tranches mouchetées (reliure d'époque). Première édition française, exécutée d'après l'édition originale anglaise (Londres, Longman, 1812). Sujet anglais emprisonné à Cadix au début des hostilités entre l'Espagne et la Grande-Bretagne et délivré par le général Beresford en 1806, John Mawe (mort en 1829), réussit à rejoindre Buenos Aires. C'est de là qu'il entreprit ce voyage à Minas Geraes ; il revint en Angleterre en 1811 et entreprit de relater ses découvertes. Son récit reçut un excellent accueil en raison du manque d'informations fiables sur le Brésil dont on pouvait disposer en Europe, spécialement sur les mines d'or et de diamant, de ce pays.
