For more than thirty years she has touched on existential subjects with her paintings and drawings, which often refer to art-historical motifs and current political themes. In 2000 begonnen Marlene Dumas en Anton Corbijn aan een eenmalig samenwerkingsproject met al thema 'stripping girls' waaruit een fascinerende wisselwerking ontstond die Corbijn, zoals hij zegt in het voorwoord, 'dichter bij zijn eigen werk bracht', terwijl Marlene Dumas, in het nawoord, juist de tegenstellingen in hun beider werkwijzen benadrukt. De samenwerking resulteerde in een boek en een tentoonstelling die te zien was in het Theatermuseum in Amsterdam en in het S.M.A.K. in Gent. Het begeleidende boek werd in een relatief kleine oplage gedrukt en werd al spoedig een collectors' item. . Met korte teksten van Anton Corbijn en Marlene Dumas.
