Scarce first editions of these works by the Jansenist and Oratorian Pierre Boyer against the Jesuits and the Papal bul Unigenitus. These works form part of a tradition in which the virtues of the ancient Greek philosophers are compared to the (supposed) virtues of the Jesuit doctrines and refute the Papal bul. The first work was condamned on August 20, 1726.Pierre Boyer (1677-1755) was an ardent opponent of the Jesuits and the Papal bul against the Jansenists and published a number of violent, polemical works on the subject. He was imprisoned at Mont St.-Michel and later at Vincennes where he died in 1755.
