‎From Paris to Vienna, from author to authority, this book tells the story of the intellectual journey of the Cistercian James of Eltville, who lectured on the Sentences at Paris in 1369-1370. With the support of the ERC-Starting Grant THESIS, a team of young scholars honed their skills in palaeography and immersed themselves in medieval philosophy and theology in the company of Eltville?s 25 surviving manuscripts. The results of their labor, curiosity and passion are gathered in this volume, which describes how Eltville developed the thought of earlier fourteenth-century theologians, such as John of Mirecourt, Gregory of Rimini, Thomas of Strasbourg, Alfonsus Vargas of Toledo, and John Hiltalingen of Basel, and passed on his synthesis to later generations of scholars. It fills a major gap in the current historiography of a relatively neglected period in intellectual history. ‎Grand panneau peu commun, composé d'un grand carton sur lequel sont montés 11 vues en photoglyptie et un cache laissant apparaître les illustrations et portant le titre et les légendes des vues. Les photoglypties sont tirées d'un album, Vues Photographiques prises sur le Territoire de St James (Antilles), publié vers 1890. Elles montrent des vues des plantations Saint-James à la Martinique dont une vue de Saint-Pierre avec des lettres gigantesques qui indiquent Plantations Saint-James sur les hauteurs dominant la ville (et placées bien avant celle dominant Hollywood), des vues de plantation, sucrerie et rhumerie ainsi que des groupes d'Indiens qui vivaient sur les plantations. En 1765, le Révérend Père Edmond Lefébure, Supérieur du couvent des Frères de la Charité et savant alchimiste, concurrent de Jean-Baptiste Labat, décida de créer sur les hauteurs de Saint-Pierre de la Martinique une distillerie de rhum afin de subvenir aux besoins de l'hôpital de la ville. Il fit ainsi jaillir des alambics, un tafia de canne à sucre hautement amélioré, appelée alors Guildive, qui évolua vers un des plus célèbres rhums agricoles. Le père Lefébure décida de donner à son rhum le nom de Saint-James (qui aurait été celui d'un amiral anglais ayant habité saint-Pierre) reconnaissable par les Anglais afin de faciliter la vente de sa production aux colons de Nouvelle-Angleterre, car l'importation de rhum était interdite. La première distillerie Saint-James se trouvait sur la route de Saint-Pierre, à Deux Choux, dans une ravine où coulait la rivière du Jardin des Plantes. À la suite de l'éruption de la montagne Pelée le 8 mai 1902, les plantations avoisinant la ville de Saint-Pierre ne furent plus que cendres. Seule la distillerie Saint-James fut en partie épargnée. Elle reprit son activité deux ans plus tard. Les photographies de ce panneau furent prisent par J. Depaz, photographe à St-Pierre de la Martinique, et le Capitaine Jean-Baptiste Moreau, de passage à St-James. Depaz était installé à Saint-Pierre de la Martinique d'après l'annuaire publié en 1897 par le Comptoir des intérêts coloniaux. Ses premiers clichés connus sont ceux publiés dans L'Illustration, en 1891, sur un cyclone qui ravagea la Martinique. En compagnie du capitaine Jean-Baptiste Moreau, il photographia la plantation Saint-James et en fit un album. La famille Depaz est une des grandes familles propriétaires de distilleries de rhum dans la région de Saint-Pierre et à Basse-Pointe. Elle y était encore installé dans les années précédant la seconde guerre mondiale, tout comme la distillerie du Galion. Bon état de conservation. Petits manques dans les bordures.‎
