‎First edition in the original printed wrappers, with a lovely presentation-inscription to the title-page: ""Den fortræffelige, aandfulde,/ Fru Agentinde Renck/ sender denne Bouquet Historier/ fra min Digterhave i dette Foraar/ Hjerteligst og ærbødigst/ H.C. Andersen"" (own translation: The splendid, the spirited,/ Mrs. Agentinde Renck/ send this bouquet of stories/ from my garden of poetry this spring/ Most heartfelt and respectfully/ H.C. Andersen.""). This excellent copy of the separately published first part of the second series of ""Nye Eventyr og Historier"" contains first printings of one of Andersen's most famous, most beloved and most frequently recounted fairy-tales/stories: ""Hvad Fatter gør er altid det rigtige"" (""What the Old Man does is Always Right""). Apart from that masterpiece of moral story-telling, the present publication contains five other of Andersen's great stories in first printings: ""Tolv med Posten"", ""Skarnbassen"", ""Sneemanden"", ""I Andegaarden"", ""Det nye Aarhundredes Musa"", as well as ""De vises Sten"", which had been printed two years earlier, in ""Folkekalender for Danmark"". Catharine Marie Renck, b. Röseler (1821-99) was married to Detlev Renck in Neumünster. Only two other presentation-copies to C. Renck are known. The present gift-copy with the lovely inscription, is presumably prompted by Andersen meeting Mrs. Rinck and her husband in November of the previous year, in Neumünster. Andersen writes in his diary ""Driven to the train station where I met Renck from Neumünster and his wife, we drove together, he is director of the railway station" invited me to them in the evening, but I did not accept but promised to come another year" he announced to the post director in Flensburg that I was coming and booked a seat for me to Odense."" (Wednesday November 7).‎
