‎A rare and highly interesting sammelband containing two works both relating to one of the most controversial judicial and political affairs of the Scanian War (1675–79): the trial and execution of the Danish nobleman Jørgen Krabbe (1633–1678). The volume presents both sides of the fierce pamphlet battle that followed his execution preserving the official Swedish justification alongside the most substantial contemporary Danish rebuttal. The first work “Een sanfärdigh och uthförligh deduction” is the official Swedish account of the proceedings against Krabbe. One of the wealthiest members of the old Danish nobility in Scania Krabbe had made allegiance to the Swedish Crown after the province was surrendered to Sweden and even represented the Scanian nobility at the Swedish Riksdag. During the Scanian War, however, suspicions regarding the loyalties of the former Danish aristocracy intensified. Accused of collaborating with Danish forces and the Snapphane resistance Krabbe was subjected to a fast trial and condemned to death being beheaded in Malmö in January 1678. The present tract seeks to justify both the prosecution and the execution detailing the charges and presenting the Swedish government's case. Bound with it is Oluf Rosenkrantz's “En sandfærdig repliqve imod den falske deduction”, a powerful and extensive reply attacking the Swedish narrative and denouncing the execution as a judicial murder orchestrated by Vice-Governor Jørgen Sperling and the Swedish authorities. Rosenkrantz argues that the evidence against Krabbe was fabricated or grossly exaggerated and that political and economic motives - particularly the desire to confiscate Krabbe's extensive estates -was behind the proceedings. Together the two pamphlets constitute an exceptional view into of one of the most famous legal scandals in seventeenth-century Scandinavia illustrating the struggle for legitimacy, loyalty and power in newly conquered Scania.
