‎A lovely copy, presented to King Christian IX of Denmark, of this richly and beautifully illustrated supplement volume (Section XXIV - devoted to stable fittings) to the sixth edition of the Illustrated Catalogue (which comes in two volumes), constitutung a catalogue of architectural iron work by the famous Saracen Foundry. The Saracen Foundry, also known as Possilpark, was a Glaswegian company founded and owned by Walter MacFarlane (1817-85) and partners, and later by his nephew Walter Macfarlane II (1853-1932). It was the most important manufacturer of ornamental ironwork in Scotland, specializing in the production of drinking fountains, bandstands, lamp standards, pre-fabricated buildings and architectural crestings and ornament. It was absorbed by a different company after WWII. The entire supplementary volume, which is present here, is devoted to stable fittings, which Macfarlane has thought appropriate for the King as inspiration for his stables. ‎
