Rare first edition of Kraft’s famous commentary to Sneedorff disregard of the mathematical method. In 1761, Kraft’s colleague in Sorø, J. S. Sneedorff, in his anonymously published periodical “Den patriotiske Tilskuer” expressed views on the limited applicability of the mathematical method and praised the fine sciences in a manner that Kraft found superficial. In response, Kraft wrote ten anonymous “Kritiske Breve til Videnskabernes Fremvext og Smagens Forbedring” (Critical Letters on the Growth of the Sciences and the Improvement of Taste) in 1761, which was followed the same year by “Fortsettelse af Kritiske Breve” (Continuation of the Critical Letters), including “Korte Anmerkninger over et Svar “ (Short Remarks on a Response).
