The first is his formal medical dissertation, “Observationum medicarum tetras”, defended under the presidency of Johann Clemens Tode on 20 July 1786. The second is the official diploma issued by the Rector, Pro-Chancellor, of the University of Copenhagen.Such pairs, preserving both the defended dissertation and the accompanying diploma, rarely survive together,
