‎First and only edition of Holm’s botanical dissertation, defended at Uppsala under Carl Linne. One of the earliest systematic attempts at a flora of Denmark and closely connected to the Flora Danica project. Dissertations defended under Linnaeus are of great interest in themselves but this particular copy is accompanied by a highly interisting letter of recomendation from Carl Linne himself (although not in the hand of Linne), in which Linne is praising Holm’s mastery of natural history and medicine, his successful defense of Prodromus Florae Danicae, his scientific travels and his fine specimen collections. “Such a man… most learned in all branches of Natural History, such as his homeland will hardly recover… he has acquired such gifts of learning as will make him most welcome in any foreign land whatsoever.”- Carl Linnaeus, (Translation from the letter) Hulth, p. 108.Soulsby 1952Lärda Tidningar, 1757, no. 80, pp. 319-320Biblioteca Danica II, 189.
