The uncommon first edition, very rare with the original wrappers, of one of the absolute main works of the ""Modern Breakthrough"" in Scandinavia. The work is not only seen as the beginning of the important literary period of ""The 80'ies"" but is also considered the first modern Swedish novel. It is due to this masterpiece that Strindberg became famous throughout Scandinavia, and consequently Europe. In spite of the mixed reviews and severe criticism of the work in Sweden, the work was immediately considered a masterpiece by the Danes, who consequently considered Strindberg a literary genious. Between 1879 and 1880, ""The Red Room"" apperaed in no less that four editions, in all about 6.000 copies, and the work was later translated into several languages. The first issue is scarce and is very rarely seen with the original wrappers. ‎
