‎---- "HUXHAM studied at Leiden under Boerhaave for three years and returned to England followings his graduation... Vol. I of the present work contains Huxham's carefully recorded observations from 1728 to 1737 of the effects that weather has on various diseases. It also contains his well-known Opusculum de morbo colico damnoniorum. An excellent work in clinical medicine, he erred only in that he ascribed the colic epidemic to the crude tartar contained in the apples and cider. Sir George Baker showed that it was actually lead poisoning caused by the lead used in the cider presses and vats. Vol. II contains additional observations Huxham made between 1738 and 1748". (Heirs of Hippocrates N° 819) - GARRISON N° 1675 ---- "TRONCHIN showed that the so-called "Poitou colic" was caused by drinking water which had passed through lead gutters".
