‎The Statue of Liberty under construction at the Gaget, Gauthier & Co. workshop in Paris ‎

‎Paris Gauthier & Co. 1883 Photographie originale sur papier albuminé de la Statue de la Liberté, en cours de construction. À l'arrière-plan se trouvent les bâtiments de l'atelier Gaget, Gauthier & Co. La statue a été construite entre 1875 et 1884. Dessinée par Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, elle a été minutieusement fabriquée à Paris, avant d'être démontée et expédiée à New York dans 200 caisses en 1884. Albert Fernique (1841-1898) a pris un certain nombre de photographies de la construction. Nombre d'entre elles sont aujourd'hui conservées à la Bibliothèque du Congrès. Un certain nombre d'entre elles ont été produites dans l'"Album des travaux de construction de la statue colossale de la Liberté, destinée au port de New-York". Il est probable que cette photographie soit tirée de l'album. (Bien que nous ayons pu identifier des photographies très similaires provenant de cet album, nous n'avons pas pu prouver que cette photographie se trouvait dans l'album, mais nous sommes convaincus qu'elle s'y trouvait). On trouve des exemples de cette photographie exacte sur l'internet, elle a servi de couverture au livre "Lady Liberty" et nous avons vu sur l'internet une copie de ce tirage signée par Bartholdi. Nous n'avons pas trouvé d'exemples de cette photographie actuellement en vente. Un objet rare. Comme on peut s'y attendre pour un objet original, le tirage à l'albumine est assez délavé. Elle a été légèrement recadrée et collée dans un album à un moment donné (avec des coins en biais), mais elle ne semble pas avoir été trop recadrée. La hauteur semble être la même, mais il y a une certaine perte de l'arrière-plan des côtés gauche et droit. Légères déchirures fermées sur le bord gauche (avant qu'il ne soit collé dans l'album). Il y a de très légers plis là où la photographie a été pliée. Au dos du support cartonné se trouvent les restes d'un tirage. Les dimensions de la photographie sont de 20 cm x 10 cm. Cela correspond à peu près à la moitié des dimensions de l'épreuve originale conservée à la Bibliothèque du Congrès. Le support cartonné mesure 24,5 cm x 11,5 cm.‎

‎An original vintage albumen photograph of the Statue of Liberty, under construction. In the background are the buildings of the Gaget, Gauthier & Co. workshop. The statue was constructed from 1875-1884. Designed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, it was painstakingly made in Paris, before being dismantled, and shipped to New York in 200 crates in 1884. Albert Fernique (1841-1898), took a number of photographs of the construction. Many of these are now held in the Library of Congress. A number were produced in the "Album des travaux de construction de la statue colossale de la Liberté, destinée au port de New-York." It is likely that this photograph is one from the album. (Although we have been able to identify very similar photographs from this album, we have not been able to prove that this photograph was in the album, but we are confident that it was). Examples of this exact photograph do appear on the internet, it was used as the cover of the book "Lady Liberty" and we has seen a copy of this print signed by Bartholdi on the internet. We cannot find any examples of this currently for sale. A rare item. As expected for an original item, the albumen print is quite faded. It has been cropped a little, and pasted into an album at some point (with angled corners) but it does not seem to have been overly cropped. The height appears to be the same, but there is some loss from the background of the left and right sides. Slight closed tears to the left edge (before it was pasted into the album). There are very light creases where the photograph has been folded. To the rear of the card backing are the remnants of a print. Photograph dimensions 20cm x 10cm. This is about half of the dimensions of the original print in the Library of Congress. The card backing is 24.5cm x 11.5cm. .‎

Links for the Site of Literary Theory', a collection of essays written by international scholars. This volume is both an act of homage to Hendrik Van Gorp and a representation of the diverse areas of literary research in which he has been active: narratology, hermeneutics, the study of translation and adaptation, and the study of literary dynamics. ‎
