(mm. 167x110), cartoncino rustico antico (tracce d'uso), pp. 243, con un bel ritratto dell'A. inc. in rame da A. Gabrieli, su disegno di Franco Corsi. Vi sono raccolti sette discorsi pronunciati dal grande artista inglese alla Royal Academy, dal 1769 al 1776. "Seconda edizione italiana". Cfr. Schlosser Magnino, p. 675 che cita anche la I ediz. di Firenze, 1778."Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-92) fu Presidente della Royal Academy di Londra dalla sua fondazione nel 1768 al 1791. Milano, nell’Imperial Monistero di s. Ambrogio Maggiore, 1779. 2 volumes in-4 de LXIV-347p., 17 planches hors-texte, 355p., [5]p de table, 1 pl. h. texte. Demi-veau à coins, dos lisses, étiquettes de titre carrées fauve, étiquettes de tomaison rondes pistache, têtes et tranches rouges.
Bien complet des 18 planches hors-texte, ainsi que des 2 vignettes de titre, 15 bandeaux et 20 culs-de-lampe. Première édition de la traduction italienne par Carlo Amoretti d’après l’édition viennoise de 1776, largement augmentés de notes. Texte capital de celui que l’on considère comme le fondateur de l’histoire de l’art et de l’archéologie en tant que disciplines modernes. Sa trajectoire personnelle et ses écrits témoignent de l'internationalisation des circulations artistiques en Europe au XVIIIe siècle tout comme de leur rôle déterminant dans l'émergence d'une nouvelle conception de l'art, le néoclassicisme (le titre original est Geschichte der Kunst des Altertums).

"18. Milano, Monistero di S. Ambrogio Maggiore, 1779, 2 vols. in-4°, 27 x 20,5 cm, LXIV pp + 347 pp ; 355 pp + (5) nn pp + 18 engraved plates h.t. ( 6 folding) ; numerous text engravings, medaillons and vignettes. Bound in contemporary uniform full mottled calf, raised gilt spine with double title labels. double gilt fillets on both covers, marbled endpapers; edges painted blue. Ninding with some traces of use. Upper outer joint of volume 2 weal and partly broken with the loss of leather at the top. Interior very fine and stainless, printed on strong paper. Still a fine copy. With the rubber stamp ex-libris of V.F. Lambinet. First edition of the first Italian translation of Winkelmann. It is preceded with a 54 pp eulogy by Heyse. Allthough the work pretends to be a history of the art of drawing in the classical world it turns out to be rather a theoretical study on the Fine Arts ( Vinet). Cicognara 59. Vinet 1255.."
