‎ First edition, with numerous text illustrations and 150 lovely full-page copper engravings (nine of which are fully hand-colored to resemble terra cotta).Moses enjoyed "a great reputation for his outline plates, which are distinguished for the purity and correctness of the drawing. His art was peculiarly suited to the representation of sculpture and antiquities" (DNB). This work is popularly reputed to have been an inspiration for Keats' "Ode to a Grecian Urn," and Keats scholars continue to attempt to substantiate the claim. Bookplate (William P. Olds). Owner signatures, inoffensive library stamp, and penciled owner marginalia. Plates generally quite clean. Binding rubbed and restored.
