‎Éditions Poésie 44 (P. Seghers), Paris 1944. Petit in-4 (270 x 196 mm) broché. 30 pp. + fnch., couverture illustrée rempliée. Édition originale des superbes textes, réflexions et pensées de Pierre Seghers sur le travail de Jean Dubuffet illustrée de 2 LITHOGRAPHIES ORIGINALES : la couverture, en noir : "Cyclotourisme" et un frontispice en couleurs : "Départ à cheval", les deux étant signées et datées dans la pierre (13).IX.44. Tirage à 161 exemplaires : 10 Japon + 140 Arches + 11 HC sur Japon. Celui-ci numéroté 59, au composteur, sur vélin d'Arches. Les lithographies et le texte ont été imprimés par Mourlot Frères le 5 octobre 1944 à Paris. L'ouvrage, dédié à Jean Paulhan, a été écrit, composé et publié par Pierre Seghers alors que l'art de Jean Dubuffet était encore très confidentiel. Ces lithographies, parmi les toutes premières de l'artiste, feront partie de la série "Matière et Mémoire" éditée par Mourlot quelques mois plus tard : ''En septembre 1944, François Mourlot invite Jean Dubuffet à faire quelques lithographies dans ses ateliers. Parti pour quelques heures, le peintre y reste trois mois, passionné. Il devait faire la couverture du livre de Pierre Seghers, L'Homme du commun, ainsi qu'une lithographie en couleurs pour servir de frontispice à ce même livre. Après quelques essais, il se trouve emporté par l'entreprise. Voyant la tournure que prend l'aventure, Mourlot propose à Dubuffet de faire un album. Ce sera Matière et Mémoire.'' (Loreau).‎


‎Exemplaire en excellent état, légers reports habituels dans les feuillets de texte et marges très légèrement brunies. Les lithographies en excellente condition de conservation. Très rare. (ref : S.
