AVANT-PROPOS Au terme de ce long travail consacré à la publication et à l'étude des inventaire et récolements de 1634 document essentiel à l'étude de l'ancien trésor de Saint-Denis travail qui, avec ses interruptions et ses reprises, a occupé plus de trente ans de ma vie ma gratitude va en premier lieu à mon très cher ami, Pierre Verlet, conservateur en chef au Département des objets d'art du Musée du Louvre sans son amicale et ferme ténacité, et son admirable esprit d'organisation, ce travail ne serait jamais parvenu à sa fin. Qu'il me permette ici de lui exprimer, à lui et à ses adjoints, MM. Daniel Alcouffe, Serge Grandjean et Bertrand Jestaz, mon infinie reconnaissance. Ma reconnaissance va aussi à mon autre très cher ami, Jean Hubert, membre de l'Institut. Au cours de ce travail, il n'a cessé de m'encourager et de m'apporter le secours de sa profonde et solide science. Je veux aussi exprimer mes plus vifs remerciements à Hubert Landais. Au temps où il occupait le poste de conservateur au Département des objets d'art, il m'a aidé de ses nombreux avis, avec la finesse de son goût et ses précieuses intuitions. Je veux aussi dire tout ce que je dois à Mme Danielle Gaborit. Elle s'est montrée pour moi, au déclin de mon âge, la plus précieuse des collaboratrices, vérifiant mes lectures de ses yeux exercés de jeune chartiste et faisant toutes les démarches que ma vieillesse ne me permet plus de faire. Qu'elle trouve ici le témoignage de tout ce dont je lui suis redevable. Enfin et avant tout, je veux ici exprimer ma profonde gratitude à Anne de Vogüé, ma femme, à qui ce livre est justement dédié. Plus que tout autre elle m'a soutenu de ses conseils et donné son appui éclairé. A son nom, je joins dans cette dédicace le souvenir de ma mère, qu'elle a tendrement aimée. C'est à elle que je dois le goût de ce qui est beau, et tout ce que j'ai de meilleur en moi. Je veux que toutes deux soient inséparables ici comme elles le sont dans mon coeur.
