In 2017, artist Patrick Van Caeckenbergh (Aalst, 1960) donated -The Cigar Box- to the MSK. This special donation now results in an equally fascinating book that appropriately carries the title Welcome. As an artist, Patrick Van Caeckenbergh is a hobbyist. His craft is that of the bricoleur, improvised and adapted to the circumstances. His techniques are those of the collage and the assembly. His method is based on the free association, where the power of the imagination results in powerful images. What used to be an office has now become a lively work of art. But The Cigar Box is more than that: it is an architecture of memory, an archive of the imagination, a box full of memories, the snail's trace of a piece of his life and the story of the village where he lived for twenty years.
