Een wereld bevroren in het ideaal van schoonheid Ruud van Empel maakt fotowerken van mensen en natuur die heel realistisch lijken, maar het niet zijn. Zijn oeuvre, gekenmerkt door een milde nostalgie, weerspiegelt een ge dealiseerde wereld, versterkt door herinneringen en overtroffen door de computer. Na 14 jaar verschijnt er eindelijk weer een omvangrijk boek van het fotowerk van Ruud van Empel. Het toont een ruime keuze uit zijn fotoseries vanaf 1995, toen hij voor het eerst naar buiten trad met zijn kunstwerken. Series zoals The Office, Study in Green en World zijn inmiddels wereldwijd bekend. Zijn latere werk bestaat voornamelijk uit landschappen die hij heeft samengesteld van foto?s die hij maakte op zijn vele reizen naar onder meer Japan, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Cuba maar ook veel Europese landen. Voor dit overzichtswerk schreef Xavier Canonne (Fotografiemuseum Charleroi) de introductie. Christophe Ruys (oud-directeur FOMU en Modemuseum Antwerpen) en Lex van de Haterd (onderzoeker en publicist) schreven essays die zijn werk analyseren en zijn unieke techniek doorgronden.
