L'histoire des ports de la Seine de 1204 à1978 : Rouen, Honfleur, Le Havre, Antifer. Vauban qui, en 1681, venait d'agrandir le port de Dunkerque avait présenté un projet du même ordre pour celui du Havre, mais ce fut surtout, après la paix de 1763, puis celle de 1783, que l'essor du commerce maritime du Havre fut freiné par l'exiguïté de son port et le peu de développement de ses quais, ce que l'ingénieur Frissard rappelait en précisant, qu'en 1780, le commerce maritime du port était effectué par cent cinquante navires d'un tonnage moyen de 150 à 160 tonneaux ! Les armateurs affrétaient des navires à Honfleur, et même en Hollande, parce que le port du Havre leur paraissait, ni assez grand, ni assez sûr... Désormais les frais d'envoi sont de 6 € seulement pour les livres jusqu'à 1 kg (colissimo suivi), pour la France métropolitaine.
