"Définit l'ethnographie comme la science de la production humaine dans les « sociétés primitives », les productions complexes des sociétés industrielles relevant plutôt, selon l'Auteur, de la sociologie. Consacre par contre un chapitre, à l'ethnographie animale, entre la géographie humaine et l'ethnographie préhistorique. Etudie successivement les techniques, les traditions, les structures (sociales, spirituelles), le dernier chapitre étant réservé à l'esthétique." (Arts et traditions populaires, 1963) — "Cet intéressant manuel, qui envisage l'ethnographie sous l'angle des traditions, des inventions, de l'emprunt et de la diffusion, met l'accent sur « l'ensemble des mutations que fait subir aux milieux intérieur et extérieur l'action humaine » (p. 14) et sur les « ressorts cachés qui la conditionnent » (p. 64).
