De Belgische poolreizigers Dixie Dansercoer en Sam Deltour hebben het wereldrecord gebroken van de langste niet- bevoorrade en niet-gemotoriseerde expeditie op Antarctica. Dixie en Sam braken dit record tijdens hun grensverleggende Antarctic ICE expeditie in Oost-Antarctica, het laatste nog nooit ge xploreerde gebied op deze planeet. Na 70 intensieve dagen op het ijs hebben beide poolreizigers een afstand afgelegd van maar liefst 4829,4 km . Tot op vandaag is deze afstand nog nooit zonder bevoorrading afgelegd tijdens een expeditie op Antarctica. "Een dergelijke prestatie vraagt enorm veel kracht, motivatie en doorzettingsvermogen. Elke dag opnieuw moet je ertegenaan gaan in de meest extreme omstandigheden. De laatste dagen waren ook uitzonderlijk zwaar. Het was navigeren geblazen tussen grote en extreem woeste sastrugi en sneeuwophopingen, tot drie meter hoog en dat bij temperaturen tussen -45 en -50 C. Enkel door onze intensieve en goede samenwerking gedurende meer dan 70 dagen hebben we deze ambitieuze uitdaging tot een goed einde kunnen brengen."
