Edition originale de la traduction en français par Robert d’Humières, avec cachet rouge au verso du titre (justification du tirage). De la “Collection d’auteurs étrangers”. Véritable édition originale, celle de Gallimard est parue en 1924. C’est le troisième roman et le premier récit maritime de l’auteur, publié en 1897 en feuilleton puis en volume. Bien que le récit relève de la fiction, il n’en est pas moins nourri par certaines expériences vécues par l’auteur.
