Édition originale des deux pièces I. Études sur Rembrandt, Claude Lorrain et Ruisdael, Paul Potter, Mozart, Beethoven ; II. Biographie "démocratique"de Bernard Palissy (1510-1589) : « La question se réduisait pour Palissy, comme pour le peuple, à une réforme purement morale du clergé, à une diminution des charges dont les propriétaires de bénéfices, par leurs fermiers, accablaient les paysans, et nullement aux controverses théologiques de hiérarchie et de dogme ». Par Alfred Dumesnil (1821-1894) professeur suppléant d'Edgar Quinet à la Chaire de l'histoire des langues et littératures de l'Europe méridionale au Collège de France (de 1848 à 1852), correcteur des livres de Michelet, secrétaire de Lamartine (de 1852 à 1862). En 1848, il tenta de se faire élire à l'Assemblée sans succès. Il habita le château de Vascœuil manoir situé au nord du village du même nom, dans l'Eure, en Normandie dont il fut adjoint à la mairie puis maire en 1893-1894.
