Exemplaire enrichi d'une importante composition originale sur double page en technique mixte, encre bleue, collages, dédicacée et signée à l'encre bleue par l'artiste (dimensions: 36x23,5, important montage à partir de 2 fragments déchirés d'estampes originales de Clavé), rehaussé d'un important travail à l'encre bleue, et d'un envoi autographe signé par le peintre catalan Antoni Clavé à un conservateur de musée français. Tirage à 275 exemplaires tous sur vélin d'Arches. Celui -ci 1 des 185 exemplaires avec l'état définitif. Très bel exemplaire. Editeur Jean Porson, Paris 1946, first edition by Antoni Clavé: one of 275 copies on Arches paper (total edition). The complete book with text by Prosper Mérimée, 160 pp, illustrated with 39 original color lithographs by Antoni Clavé, of these 13 are full-page. Loose leaves in publisher's wrappers, boards chemise and slipcase. Overall size 10.5 x 8.25 in (26 x 21 cm); the book and the illustrated slipcase both in fine condition.

Antoni Clavé (né le 5 avril 1913 à Barcelone, Catalogne, mort le 30 août 2005 à Saint-Tropez, France) est un peintre catalan. Antoni Clavé Sanmarti rentre aux Beaux-Arts de Barcelone en 1930, pour deux ans. Contraint de quitter l'Espagne pendant la guerre civile, il se réfugie en France. À Paris, il devient décorateur de théâtre et illustrateur : Carmen, Gargantua... Très bon état d’occasion

<meta charset="utf-8"><span data-mce-fragment="1">Né à Barcelone en 1913, Antoni Clavé a été confronté à la guerre dès 1937. Le thème du guerrier se retrouve très tôt dans son art et figure parmi les sujets qui lui assurent la reconnaissance du public à Paris en 1958.</span><br data-mce-fragment="1"><span data-mce-fragment="1">Au contact de sculptures et de masques africains dont Clavé s’entoure dans ses ateliers, la figure du guerrier demeure fondamentale. Titre et sujet fétiches de l’artiste, le guerrier, tel un refrain, peut se lire comme une image rémanente dans les sculptures, les peintures, les assemblages de textiles ou de bois de Clavé jusqu’au début des années 2000. Ce thème le hante toute sa vie.</span><br data-mce-fragment="1"><span data-mce-fragment="1">C’est à travers le prisme du souvenir de masques africains que ce catalogue propose un regard original sur l’art d’Antoni Clavé.
