Füssil applique ue esthétique du sublime à l'espace et au corps humain. Bien qu'il ait recourt aux théories du sublime comme celle d'Edmund Burke, ou de Jonathan Richardson, l'artiste exprime une forme picturale du sublime qui diffère de celles choisies par ses contemporains. S'appuyant notamment sur la science pour représenter un expressionnisme émotionnel, Füssli offre à son spectateur un sublime de la révélation, visant à élever le personnage shakespearien."

Das Schloss Wurp oder Wulp bey Itschnen in dem Küsnachter Berg dem Frei Herren von Regensberg zuständig ward von den Zürcher unter Anführung Graaff Rodolph von Habsburg eingenommen und zerstört’. Von J. Melchior Füssli ad nat: del: et Sculpsit.is.
1717, 22x27.5 cm, 1 Blatt Original-Kupferstich, sehr schöner klarer Abzug, Einzelblatt (Blattgr. 23.5x34 cm).
Die legendäre Zerstörung der Wulp regte im 18. Jahrhundert die Fantasie der Künstler an. Ein Beispiel dafür ist eine dramatische Darstellung von Johann Melchior Füssli, die am Neujahrstag 1717 erschien. Es zeigt die Wulp als grossen Gebäudekomplex, der soeben vom abziehenden Grafen Rudolf von Habsburg und seiner Mannschaft zerstört wurde. Nach ihrer Zerstörung oder Aufgabe um 1270 verfiel die Burg. Heinrich Zeller-Werdmüller berichtete 1895, dass er von der Burg nichts mehr gesehen habe, dass aber 50 Jahre zuvor noch ansehnliche Trümmer des Turmes zu sehen gewesen sein sollen. (Wikipedia).
