Demi veau XIXème sur plats marbrés. Pages de garde marbrées. Certains numéros de poèmes / sections sont imprimés de manière incorrecte, mais tous sont présents et toutes les gravures sont présentes. Légers frottements sur les bords du dos, et une touche de chocs sur les plats. Le bloc de texte est impeccable, avec des gravures magnifiquement propres et lumineuses. 260 par 210 mm (10Œ par 8Œ pouces). Première édition latino-française de la collection de Faerno, une édition anglais-français avait été publiée deux ans auparavant. Gabriele Faerno (d. 1561) a été chargé de compiler une sélection de fables ésopiennes par son protecteur le pape Pie IV en c. 1550. Le recueil de 100 fables fut publié en 1563 seulement, après la mort de Faerno. La traduction française en vers de Charles Perrault a été publiée pour la première fois en 1699. Son objectif était de parvenir à une combinaison idéale de proximité du texte latin avec la poésie subtile de La Fontaine. La présente édition latino-française était utilisée comme manuel à l'époque. Some poem / section numbers are printed incorrectly, but all are present, and all engravings are present. Slight rubbing to the edges of the spine, and a touch of bumping to the boards. The text block is spotless, with the engravings beautifully clean and bright. 260 by 210mm (10Πby 8Πinches). This is a scarce London edition. First Latin-French edition of Faerno'?s collection, an English-French edition was published two years before. Gabriele Faerno (d. 1561) was commissioned to compile a selection of Aesopian fables by his protector Pope Pius IV in c. 1550. The collection of 100 fables was published in 1563 only, after Faerno'?s death. Charles Perrault?'s French translation in verses was first published in 1699. His aim was to achieve an ideal combination of closeness to the Latin text with La Fontaine?'s subtle poetry. The present Latin-French edition was in use as a text book at the time. ? London George routledge and Sons 1894 Première édition. Bougran brun avec des planches illustrées avec des dessins et des titres dorés et noirs. La dorure est un peu frottée et il y a quelques bosses sur les bords. La reliure est un peu bosselée et l'une des illustrations (p118) est partiellement détachée (sur la moitié inférieure) mais tient encore en place. Petite réparation sur le bord de l'illustration du frontis avec du ruban adhésif d'archivage. Quelques soulignements au crayon sur des mots difficiles tout au long de l'ouvrage suggèrent que celui-ci a été utilisé comme support pédagogique. Il y a un trou assez important à la page 65/66 (voir photographies). Dans l'ensemble, l'ouvrage est en assez bon état. Il s'agit essentiellement d'une réédition des fables d'Esope avec la morale à la fin de chaque conte. Gravures attrayantes en noir et blanc. Viii, 280 pages. 190 mm x 150 mm
First Edition. Brown buckram with illustrated boards with gilt and black design and titles. The gilt is a little rubbed and there is some bumping to the edges. Binding is a little bumped and one of the illustrations (p118) is partially loose (to the lower half) but still holding in place. Small repair to the edge of the frontis illustration with archival tape. Some pencil under-linings to difficult words throughout suggest this was used as an educational aid. There is a fairly large hole in page 65/66 (see photographs). Still in reasonably sound condition overall though. Essentially a re-telling of Aesop's fables with the moral to the end of each tale. Attractive black and white engravings. Viii, 280 pages. 190mm x 150mm .

First edition. Hardback binding is an embossed library one; a little bumped and nicked at spine, but still quite attractive. Internally, the book has some library stamps and tags to front, small stamp on bottom of title page, and security tag to rear. Overall in good shape. xxxii, 231 pp. 175 x 115 mm (7 x 4œ inches). Babrius was the reputed author of a collection of more than 125 fables based on Aesop's Greek fables.

A nice copy of this scarce first edition. 283 engraved vignettes of the 100 fables on 94 pages of India paper. Original stiff boards, with gilt to a dark brown label on the spine. Rubbing and bumping to the corners, and a slight splitting to the top edge of the spine. Inside, the india paper is a little nicked to some edges, and has some foxing spots, but still an attractive copy. (4),6(index),(8 advert.) pp. Includes engravings by Jackson, Branston, Nesbit, White, Bonner. Etc.
