P."" punctured to bottom of back wrapper) - with signed presentation-inscription for the publisher Camille Bloch to half-title - of Camus' great collection of stories, which are considered among the best of his works. Together, these stoires cover the entire variety of existentialism - or absurdism. There is general consensus that the clearest manifestation of the ideals of Camus can be found in the present work. ‎

‎(Paris), Gallimard, (1957). Bound uncut and with the original printed wrappers, aslo the backstrip, in a magnificent full black morocco binding with more than 100 calf onlays in seven different tones of red/orange, forming three hypnotizing circles on each board. Gilt title to spine, all edges gilt, and bright red suede end-papers within cream calf borders. Housed in a matching black morocco chemise with gilt title and red and grey paper covers, with suede on the inside, and a slipcase of the same paper and with black morocco edges. The binding is signed J.P. Miguet and dated 2003. One of the morocco onlays on the back board, towards the spine, has a tiny tear at the edge. Otherwise the binding is in splendid condition. Also internally, the copy is near mint. Apart from the backstrip, which has been mounted and slightly restored, it is completely clean, fresh, and crisp. Elengant, blindstamped super-exlibris to inside of front board.‎

Bound with the original printed wrappers in beautiful, elegant emerald green full morocco binding with gilt line-decoration in various heights and distances to boards and spine as well as vertical gilt lettering to spine. Top edge gilt. Binding signed A. Coutret. Wrapper a bit soiled, mostly the back wrapper. Otherwise very nice and clean. Paper evenly browned due to the paper quality. Gilt super ex-libris to inside of front board.‎

Henry Hell, a psudonym for José-Henri Lasry, was a law student in Algiers, where he met Camus and acted for the Théatre du Travail. He was a literary critic for several periodicals, and he reviewed sevearl of Camus' works. He is the author of ""Francis Poulenc, musicien francais"", and he later worked for a publishing house in Paris.‎

Le recueil est composé de six textes : « La Femme adultère », « Le Renégat », « Les Muets », « L’Hôte », « Jonas » et « La Pierre qui pousse ». Ces nouvelles vont être pour l’écrivain « autant de gammes, dans le renouvellement des formes ». Albert Camus les entreprend dans une atmosphère de solitude et d’exil, vivant douloureusement le fait de se sentir prisonnier d’une image inexacte composée de lui par la critique et le public. Chacune de ces nouvelles sur la solitude et la solidarité témoigne de la force suggestive du réalisme symbolique. La prière d’insérer de Camus est suffisamment explicite : « Un seul thème, celui de l’exil, est traité de 6 façons différentes, depuis le monologue intérieur jusqu’au récit réaliste. Quant au royaume il coïncide avec une certaine vie libre et nue que nous avons à retrouver pour renaître enfin. L’exil à sa manière nous en montre les chemins, à la seule condition que nous sachions y refuser en même temps la servitude et la possession ».
