1816 [12], x, 192 p, 12 hand-coloured engraved plates, small 8vo, later pebbled cloth with gilt title on spine. A nice little book with attractive hand-coloured plates, written by Priscilla Wakefield. "Priscilla Wakefield, née Priscilla Bell (1751-1832) was an English Quaker educational writer and philanthropist". The subject is treated in a series of letters, a popular form in those days. Rare, especially in an original, hand-coloured state such as this copy. Uncut. With, strangely, the 12 pp. catalogue of Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown, Green, and Longman, dated August 1822, bound in front. The binding is early- to mid-20th century. One plate re-pasted in, with verso and recto switched. Some slight foxing, otherwise a good copy. Rare.

Includes the Neuroptera (in Parts I, II), Isoptera, Ephemeroptera (III), and Odonata (IV). The first part of Hagen's catalogue on Termitina (= Isoptera) (1858), 34 pp, has been added at the end. Contains many new taxa.
