One of a series of smaller works published by this prolific entomological author from Regensburg between 1752 and 1778. The work contains detailed observations of the anatomy, ontogeny and behaviour of these insects. Title page with some faint foxing, else a good copy of this very rare work. 1849 279 p., small 8vo (14.8 x 9.6 cm), later green paper-covered boards, original printed covers bound in. Very rare catalogue and list of species and genera by the famous Swedish entomologist Carl Johan Schönherr (1772-1848) commissioned by the Société Entomologique de France. See Horn-Schenkling under H. Jekel. The same author published the famous and rare "Genera et species Curculionudum" in eight volumes (1833-1844) of which this might be regarded as a supplement. Bookplate (of David Sharp, depicting the ant and the cicada of the La Fontaine fables) on front pastedown and vague library stamp on front cover. The covers browned, and front cover previously stuck to the front board with some loss. Title pages and text only with minor spotting; a good copy.
