Grand entomologiste, l'auteur s'intéresse aux petits insectes, que ni Diderot ni Buffon n'ont intégré à leurs ouvrages respectifs. Il étudie la vie des fourmis ou encore le système digestif des abeilles. "La Fresque la plus convaincante, la plus attentive et la plus émouvante qui se puisse de l'Infiniment Petit" (En français dans le texte 145). "L' un des plus ingénieux naturalistes et physiciens que la france ait produits " (Brunet IV, p. 1131 - Quérard VII, p. 481- Nissen ZBI, 3315). Bon exemplaire dans une reliure de la première moitié du XIXème siècle. ‎
