This one covers the rich non-marine malacofauna north of the Pyrenees, and is much better illustrated and of more scientific importance than most. The second paper on Aquitanian land and freshwater molluscs (with one plain plate) is much more uncommon than the first.The French malacologist Jean Gassies (1816-1883) mainly studied the French continental fauna and is the author of many new species. The plates drawn by A. Laboulbène and M. Lespiault and engraved by F. Plée are beautifully handcoloured.
