Rare.The opening in 1869 of the Suez Canal had important zoogeographical implications because two faunas separated for millions of years became reconnected. This is the most important of the earliest studies of the fauna of th Suez Canal. A good thorough and well illustrated study of the mollusc fauna living in the canal at that time by the Greek malacologist Georgi Polychronis Moazzo (1893-1975).

1855 hald-title, title-page, 92 p., 54 coloured engraved plates, large 8vo, modern green half cloth with marbled boards and black label on spine (original printed covers bound in). Marbled endpapers. Text foxed, first plate slightly foxed, the remainder very clean.The rare coloured atlas in which the shells are coloured and the detailed anatomical figures are left uncoloured. The 92 pages are captions to the plates. Alfred Moquin Tandon (1804-1863) was far ahead of its time by describing and showing radula, genitalia and nervous sytems, thus providing a taxonomic accuracy matched by none of his contemporaries. The plates were drawn by the author and engraved by Marie Nicolas Oudet. The printing was done by Narcisse Rémond who used his expensive full colour printing technique, that equals even the best hand-colouring in quality.

Published in: Journal de Conchyliologie Scarce monograph, with one new species of Scissurellidae from the Paris Bassin Eocene. Written by Charles Philippe Ernest Munier Chalmas (1843-1903), who also had a species of Scissurella named after him. The paper was published at a time, apparently, when the Journal de Conchyliologie was issued in very low numbers. A very scarce offprint of the volume X issue of October 1862, pp. 391-397, and pl. XVI. A very good, nicely bound copy.

1906-1912 ca. 1400 p., ca. 60 plates, uniform half calf over pebbled boards, spines with two raised bands, gilt squares and title, marbled endpapers, marbled edges. With a small stamp of a former Dutch owner (J. H. J. van de Laar). Some rubbing on spines in earliest volumes, else a very nice run. The earlier volumes are quite scarce.An attractively bound, uninterrupted run of seven volumes from a period when circulation was low. The important wrappers with pages in Roman numbering – often discarded by bookbinders – are included at rear. Authors include Dall, Pilsbry, Henderson, Simpson, Maxwell Smith, Clapp, F.C. Baker, Preston, De la Torre, etc.
