Merian fehlte waren exakte Beobachtungen und gleichzeitig deren repräsentative, anregende Darstellung auf farbigen Tafeln. Hier setzt das Werk des Miniaturmalers Johann Roesel von Rosenhof (1705-1759) ein. Seine Anregungen ... hat er direkt aus dem Merianschen Werk empfangen ... Die Anschaulichtkeit seiner Tafeln sowie seine ausgewogene Farbgebung machen es verständlich, dass noch bis ins 20.
