This publication contains reflections on Jacques Ranciere's essay "The Ignorant Master" by the artist Marc De Blieck and the art philosopher Volkmar Muhleis. The artist's practice is assuming an expanding variety of forms, the artist can leap from one method to another, and the media available to him, old and new, appear inexhaustible. Can and should art education prepare the artist for this? One possibility is to bring a never-ending abundance of experts into the art schools. Ranciere offers us a provocative alternative in the form of Jacotot, the ignorant master. In part, the book indirectly endorses present-day art education, but at the same time a number of the controversial arguments it contains challenge one to self-reflection.

Journalist en filmmaker Marc Didden en fotograaf Herman Selleslags berichten over de diverse avonturen die ze samen beleefden tijdens de periode dat ze beiden voor Humo werkten. Marc rapporteert in zijn kenmerkende stijl over interviewsessies met onder meer Bob Marley, Tom Waits en Armand. Hij neemt de lezer mee naar New York, naar diverse filmsets en naar talrijke andere tot de verbeelding sprekende plekken. Alle teksten zijn speciaal voor deze publicatie geschreven. Herman dook in zijn omvangrijke archief en selecteerde een zestigtal beelden die perfect aansluiten bij de verhalen van Marc. En vice versa. Marc Didden was in de jaren 70 journalist bij het weekblad Humo en werd nadien filmmaker en scenarist. Hij was docent scenario aan de Hogeschool Sint-Lukas in Brussel en schreef scenario's voor tv-series. Daarnaast publiceerde Didden talrijke columns, twee bundels persinterviews, een novelle en een hommage aan Hugo Claus. Bij Luster verschenen eerder Het verdriet van de mediawatcher (2010), Scenarioschrijven (2011) en Een gehucht in een moeras (2013). Herman Selleslags is een van Vlaanderens bekendste fotografen. Hij fotografeert al meer dan een halve eeuw nationale en internationale gebeurtenissen en werkte onder meer voor Humo, Knack, Vrij Nederland, Die Zeit en De Volkskrant. Selleslags fotografeerde talrijke beroemdheden zoals Paul Mc Cartney, Alfred Hitchcock en Frank Zappa.

Mark Dubois (born February 24, 1949) began as an environmental activist, initially focusing on saving rivers and has worked to mobilize and engage citizens globally for a vibrant future. In 1972 he co-founded Environmental Traveling Companions (E.T.C.) to offer environmental education and Outward Bound-type trips to disabled persons and disadvantaged youth. In 1973, he co-founded Friends of the River to fight the flooding of the Stanislaus River and canyon by the New Melones Dam. He reached national fame when he chained himself to a rock on the banks of the river to prevent the flooding of the river. He also co-founded International Rivers in 1984, and served as the International Coordinator of Earth Day 1990 and 2000. His personal papers from these organizations and other work from 1970?2002 are held by the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley.

Marcel Dzama: The Moon is Following Me. Marcel Dzama (1974 Winnipeg, Canada. Lives and works in New York) has developed an immediately recognizable visual language that investigates human action and motivation, as well as the blurred relationship between the real and the subconscious. Drawing equally from folk vernacular as from art-historical and contemporary influences, Dzama?s work visualizes a universe of childhood fantasies and otherworldly fairy tales. Dzama?s image repertoire includes a wide range of art-historical quotations. One can recognize ballet costumes by Oskar Schlemmer or Francis Picabia, for example, and direct references to Francisco de Goya, Marcel Duchamp and Joseph Beuys. However, it?s not just elements from the past that spur Dzama?s creativity. The music enthusiast has collaborated with various colleagues from the beginning of his career, whether as part of the Royal Art Lodge in Winnipeg, which he co-founded, or in the form of collaborations with Arcade Fire, Bob Dylan, Beck, Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), the filmmaker Spike Jonze, the actress Amy Sedaris, the ensemble of the New York City Ballet, or fellow artists like Raymond Pettibon and Jockum Nordstr m.
