‎Summary The Codex Amiatinus is perhaps the most famous copy of the Bible surviving in Western Europe. A fascinating and elusive manuscript, with a suite of decorated folios, it was made in Anglo-Saxon England around the turn of the eighth century at the twin monastic foundation of Wearmouth and Jarrow as one of three such 'pandects'. Created at the monastic foundation celebrated in the work of the Venerable Bede, this vast and luxe manuscript was sent by the Northumbrian monks as a gift to the Pope in 716 and, after a sojourn of some 900 years at Monte Amiato (Tuscany), it was donated to the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana in Florence in the eighteenth century. ‎Jean Bonhomme (1619-1662), de jongste zoon van een emblematische Luikse glasmakerfamilie, start omstreeks 1648 met de eerste volledige en getrouwe vertaling van de Arte Vetreria van Neri, die werd gepubliceerd in Firenze in 1612. Deze verzameling van glas- en kleurrecepten is een van de basiswerken van de glasliteratuur en vormt de eerste helft van de 230 folio?s van l?Art Vetraire van Jean Bonhomme. Dit werk inspireerde de Luikse glasmaker wellicht om in 1652-53 demonstraties te geven aan de Duitse keizer Ferdinand III in Praag en in Regensburg. Terug in Luik werkt Bonhomme verder aan zijn verhandeling over de glaskunst en stelt hij een beschrijving op van een oven l?allemande (naar Duits model), verwarmd met kolen, en een oven la v nitienne (naar Venetiaans model) die wordt verwarmd met hout, en die werd gebouwd in Luik in de jaren 1652-1653. De bouwmethoden en -materialen zijn nauwkeurig beschreven, net als de herkomst en de bereidingsmethoden van de grondstoffen die werden gebruikt om het glas te maken. De wekelijkse organisatie met betrekking tot de oven, het management, het rekruteren en de lonen van het personeel uit Altare en Veneti worden ook toegelicht. Het boek sluit af met een verslag van de productie, de werkingskosten en de jaarlijkse inkomsten van de glasblazerij van Maastricht in 1652. ‎Summary The Abbaye du Saint Esprit was a successful work of vernacular spiritual advice for women, surviving in sixteen manuscripts and a widely copied Middle English translation. Unlike many other didactic religious texts, it offers few prescriptions for behaviour; rather, it instructs the reader to build a convent of virtues in her conscience and uses the allegorical structure of the building and its inhabitants to arrange brief teachings on prayer and virtuous practice. ‎Summary Like other Jewish works from the late Second Temple period, Psalms of Solomon alludes constantly to passages in Scripture?particularly the Pentateuch, the Prophetic books and Psalms. Gathering all passages where the Psalms of Solomon refer to a specific verse in Scripture, the present monograph ventures to analyze the authors' use of Scripture and to identify the textual tradition underlying the allusions. The conclusion this leads to is that the authors used a Greek version, close to the Septuagint but sporadically revised on the basis of the proto-Masoretic Hebrew text. This conclusion agrees with recent research on revisionary work on the Septuagint, which must have begun in the first century BCE, long before the named recensions of the second century CE (Aquila, Symmachus, Theodotion). The textual analysis casts a new light on the Psalms of Solomon. Although they came into being in Jerusalem in the aftermath of Pompey's conquest of the city in 63 BCE, they were not composed in Hebrew, but in Greek. The identity of the Greek-speaking group that produced the Psalms of Solomon, and their religious views, are discussed in the final chapter of this monograph. TABLE OF CONTENTS Introduction 1.
