‎Summary Den Menschen dem Menschen erkl ren stellt die erste, umfassende Vergleichsanalyse von drei anthropologischen Traktaten aus dem vierten Jahrhundert n. Chr. dar: Laktanzens De opificio Dei, Gregor von Nyssas De hominis opificio und Nemesios von Emesas De natura hominis. Diese Texte wurden oft als das jeweils erste Beispiel christlicher Anthropologie bezeichnet, doch ebenso oft waren die Kriterien, die zu diesem Urteil f hrten, unklar. Das Buch hinterfragt diese Einsch tzungen und widmet sich der Analyse der literarischen Form und des philosophisch-theologischen Inhalts dieser Schriften. Es zeichnet die Intentionen, welche die drei Autoren beim Verfassen der Traktate verfolgten, nach. Es analysiert die philosophischen Grundgedanken, die diesen Beispielen christlicher Anthropologie zugrunde liegen. Es stellt dar, wie in den drei Texten eine deskriptive und eine normative Anthropologie miteinander verwoben werden, um ein protreptisch-par netisches Ziel zu erreichen. ‎This book presents both an overview of the print production in the 17th century Southern Low Countries and a focused approach to the work of three collaborators of Rubens. Apart from their work as painters, these artists quickly penetrated the world of prints and each dominated a specific market segment. Abraham Van Diepenbeeck was a prolific designer of individual prints and print series. Erasmus Quelinus II often drew models for book-illustrations. Cornelis Schut ran an important workshop which produced many beautiful etchings. The book explores how these artists positioned themselves in an artistic field, operating in a highly competitive field that presented both threats and new opportunities. Their oeuvre is firmly set in a European context, spanning local, regional and international markets. An analysis is made of the relation between prints as reproductions of paintings and prints as autonomous inventions. The book argues that the importance of prints as autonomous creations has been underestimated for the 17th century. The book studies the connections between the three artists and some forty professional engravers who were active in 17th-century Antwerp. Many biographical data on these engravers are presented, and more than 100 prints are published for the first time. Ann Diels (1969) works at the Print Room of the Royal Library of Belgium and teaches the History of European Printmaking at the Free University of Brussels. She has published the New Hollstein volumes on the Collaert Family (2005-2006) and 'The Family Collaert (ca. 1555-1630) en de prentkunst in Antwerpen' (2009). ‎

Natasja Peeters (War Heritage Institute Brussels). Both researchers wanted to draw more attention to research into art in the Southern Netherlands during the late sixteenth century. This conference collection includes thirteen essays by national and international specialists in sixteenth-century art of the Netherlands. The essays focus on various aspects of the work and life of the Antwerp history painter Frans Francken the Elder, the Francken dynasty, and his milieu. An artist?s work and life knows many facets, and data have to be culled from many sources. By providing a mosaic of research methods and tracks, the essays makes an attempt to visualize the complexity and richness of the research field. This small selection from the realm of possibilities mainly wants to encourage further research.
